ARULMIGU SRIDEVI SENKUNDRAM PARASAKTHI VEERAMAAKALI AMMAN
Sakthi is regarded as the mother of universe. The culmination of her powerful manifestations as Ichcha, kriya and gnana is AdiParaskthi. The virgin goddess facing south and seated on a pedestal with Lion as vehicle, showers her abundant grace as Veeramaakali Amman at Senkundram (Redhills, chennai). She is the Goddess of god and protector of good and destroyer of evil on earth. Since time immemorial, it is believed that the idol of deity had unearthed on its own where birds and animals were attracted to worship goddess and shower flowers. As storks and cranes frequented this place, it was originally called Naravarikuppam.

At this non-vedic temple, devotees undergo fasting to perform pooja rituals on Tuesdays/Fridays and fulfill their vows. The goddess blesses and removes the grief of devotees thronging her temple. Her grace is known to solve family worries, bestow wisdom; remove matrimonial obstacles, infertility, unemployment, karmic sins and witchcraft. Special poojas are performed on the days of Pournami (full moon), Amavasai (new moon) and Ashtami (8th day after Pournami and Amavasai). Persons affected by chicken pox also get cured by her healing touch. Lighting ghee lamps made of rice flour (ma-vilakku) is a practice followed here with utmost reverence and widely practiced at all Amman temples in the south. Behind sanctum of the temple ,facing the north is visvaropam avathar of veeramaakali amman with 32 hands on the vehicles of kamadhenu (devine cow)and lion.
